The Oldest Profession

Some people when asked what the world's oldest profession is will blush and get silly little grin on their face; others will think about it for a moment and then say that farming is the oldest human vocation. Those of you who are in that latter category probably need to get out more. It is a well traveled notion that prostitution is the planet's oldest service industry job. At many points in history women of negotiable affection have gone with the poker industry in the same complimentary fashion as a warm glass of milk and a bag of Oreos go together.

The Plague

The plague is what happens when the table goes dead. There's no action, the game is going slow, it's getting boring, and worst of all, you're not making any money. The plague infects many tables at many times. It can last for a great long time, killing the table, or it can be a short period of little action, setting the table up for a rebirth. The plague is like a force of nature. Seldom can you stop it or avoid it. Your only real recourse is to try and ride it out and be in a position to capitalize on its aftermath. This requires careful play on your behalf, however.

Trapping with a Raise and a Smooth Call

In poker, a smooth call is something you do when you are trying to trap your opponent and get them to feed the pot with their hard earned money. For example, in pre-flop betting if you are in the late position, but not the last to act, and you have a pair of aces, you may want to encourage action without tipping off how strong your position is. If you are at an aggressive and loose table, chances are pretty good that somebody will not only call the big blind, but raise. In the event that someone raises, you will re-raise them with your pair of Aces.

WPT Event Won by Lee Markholt

A final table that sported players like Phil Ivey, Michael Mizrachi and David Pham could be one of the toughest poker tournamets around, and that was just what Lee Markholt faced when he played in the World Poker Challenge, a World Poker Tour event. Lee managed not only to avoid elimination by this tough table of pros, but went on to win the whole event. He beat out 260 players to win, and managed a first place cash prize of $493,000...

Poker and Golf Return Together

Last year the World Series of Poker influenced a number of big time poker pros to organize and play in their second favorite game - golf. The 2007 World Series of Golf was a big deal to the players, who teamed up to try and take each other's bankroll down to zero and win all the "chips", like in poker. The game will return to Las Vegas in May, from the 12th to the 15th, as the 2008 World Series of Golf...

Montel Williams to Play Poker Nations

The talk show host that made his presence known at the 2007 World Series of Poker main event will soon be playing poker in Wales. Montel Williams, who stood out at the 2007 WSOP for his flamboyant shirt as much as his celebrity, will play at the PartyPoker.com Poker Nations Cup in Cardiff, Wales this April. The event, running from April 7 through April 10, will feature Jamie Gold, Chris "Jesus" Ferguson, Freddy Deeb and Chad Brown on Team USA in addition to Williams...

"Sit' n Go Strategy" by Collin Moshman

Author Collin Moshman - like many who play or write about poker, has a degree in mathematics. Moshman gained much of what he knows about sit n go strategy from his own online play. Moshman now wants to share his own aggressive playing style and strategy with others through his recent release called "Sit 'n Go Strategy." The book is best for mid to advance level players and might especially appeal to those who share Moshman's interest in succeeding through aggressive play.

Poker Pair to Split

Before marrying pro poker player Rick Salomon, her only tie to the world of poker was an aborted attempt to launch a poker room online, but Pamela Anderson has learned all she needs to know about folding. The former Playboy model is divorcing her latest husband, who forgave her poker debt to him by going on a date, and both parties have agreed to an annulment. Both also stated fraud as the reason, but neither party came up with any details...

Poker Players Alliance Looks for Lawyers

One of the few organizations put together to look out for poker players' legal interest is looking for a few good lawyers to join. The Poker Players Alliance has launched a free litigation support network in order to provide basic legal advice to poker players in need. Powering this network would be lawyers from around the country who would volunteer their expert advice on a number of topics like what to do if you get arrested as a result of a poker raid...

Income Equals Winning

Think about the following scenario: you play three ring games in one night. In the first, you win three hundred dollars. In the second, you win three hundred and fifty dollars. In the last you lose five hundred dollars. That five hundred sounds like a big loss, doesn't it? Actually, it's not. In the course of the night, you're up one hundred and fifty bucks. It's important to think long term when playing poker for money. We are not just talking about the long term of a game, but in the total long term.

Playing a Small Pair

In modern society having a small pair is something that pop-culture says can be dealt with using either some potent self-esteem building exercises or a really good plastic surgeon. In the sport of poker a small pair can be just as vexing as it can in the world dominated by much more prodigious and occasionally augmented pairs. The temptation with any pair is to drive as many people out of the hand and leave your cards facing as little competition as possible. This is especially true for people who are sitting in a late position.

There's No Crying in Strip Poker

Much of the art of Mixed Martial Arts is the lack of rules. With few exceptions just about anything goes. Two guys walk into a cage and beat the stuffing out of each other until one gives up, gets knocked out, or dies. Those of us whose arms have more in common with those little sticks that you stir coffee with than mighty oaks have very few "no rules" options open to us when it comes to games. Strip poker was one of our few outlets for rules free fun, and now Playboy has gone and ruined that.

Seduced by a Big Hand

Tunnel vision is a very, very dangerous thing. It is also to blame for a fair number of blunders at the poker table as well. Here is an example of what we mean. Let's say that you're holding an A-6. After the flop and the turn the cards showing on the board are 9-6-9-6. The good news is that you have a Full House. It would be easy to attach to this fact and start betting the mortgage. Take a second and think though, you have an opponent who isn't blinking and is throughout the hand has been following calling every bet and after the flop actually got more aggressive.

Rick Salomon Busts Again

Poker player Rick Salomon would probably rather be famous winning multiple WSOP bracelets or being called a donkey after gutting out a tough, high profile win over Phil Hellmuth than having the world know him for the women he has been associated with. He first garnered attention by marrying "Berverly Hills 90210" actress Shannen Doherty. After his nuptials went the way of the Do-Do, he was filmed treating Paris Hilton's naughty bits the way German Wehrmacht treated the city of Paris sixty years earlier. He latest high profile romance included him basically winning Pamela Anderson in a strip poker game. As of today his storybook marriage to the Baywatch Babe has been annulled.

Mike Sexton Will Represent NLOP

He is a well-known face and voice already when it comes to announcing poker games and now Mike Sexton is expanding his horizons in an exclusive contract to work with the National League of Poker. Sexton will be the featured spokesman for the online portion of the National League of Poker, which is a social gaming site that allows players in the United States to play for free and win cash prizes, including seats to big-time events such as the World Series of Poker. According to NLOP sources it has been a longtime goal to get Mike Sexton to be part of the company. Related Articles: Poker Royalty signs Finnish star Online poker room snags Elizabeth...

Choose Your Own

Here is a poker variation called "Choose Your Own" that would make an interesting addition to any regular games you enjoy. Much about this variation is reminiscent of 7-Card Stud so it might be an easy transition and an appropriate change of pace if you play 7-Card Stud on a regular basis. This game accommodates anywhere from three to seven players. Play begins with every player contributing to the ante. The first deal follows the ante and each player gets two face-down cards and one face-up card.

Beat the Clock

There are people who will spend hours staring into the mirror, working on their poker face and trying to figure out ways to fake people out with their expressions or a subtle raise of the eyebrow. While having a really good and versatile poker face is just one more tool in the kit, there are plenty of messages that can be sent without having to learn the art of face acting. The clock is something that can be used to send out any signal you want about your hand.

Interview with Nancy Cartwright

Imagine being caught in a life where you are perpetually 10 years old. These are the golden years where society at large pretty much accepts that you're not old enough to be responsible for the carnage that follows in your wake. It is also the age that is the paradise before hormones screw everything up. This is the life that Nancy Cartwright has pretty much lived for almost two-decades. Most of us know her as the voice of the precocious (and sometimes felonious, cartoon icon) Bart Simpson.

Plasticity

Most of what you come into contact is made from or covered in plastic in one way or another. It really is a wonder material. Part of its wonder comes from its flexibility, its plasticity. Being flexible is very important to successful poker play. It's undeniable that a flexible player can outplay a rigid one. The former is simply better able to adapt to the ever changing game situation than the latter. Plastic is only flexible under certain situations; at other times, plastic is itself very rigid. Plastic can be very strong and unyielding when we require it to be. You should be the same in poker.

When to Attack with a Drawing Hand

Boredom is a bad reason to do anything. If you play a drawing hand simply because you are sick of folding your hole cards and think you need to do something, then you are playing poker with the same mindset that Dilbert's pointy-haired boss manages his office. During tournaments and cash games you are going to want to pick your spot when playing your drawing hands. There are certain situations that work well with that sort of hole cards. The best possible situation when playing your drawing hand is for you to have really good odds.

Irish Poker Open Over

The winner of the latest Irish Poker Open is one Neil Channing, closing out this year's poker festivities in the Emerald Isle with a €801,400 payday. Channing is the latest champion in a long line, as the Irish Open is the longest running pro poker event in Europe, and comes second globally only behind the event that inspired it, the World Series of Poker. The rest of the 2008 Irish Open final table finishers are: Donal Norton - €420,000, Thomas Dunwoodie - €275,000, Tim Blake - €220,000, Kai Danilo Paulsen - €175,000, Edwin Tournier - €135,000, Carsten Joh â€Â" €100,000, Eric Larcheveque - €75,000 and John Keown - €50,000. The Grand

Considering his hemp habit, it is a reasonable assumption that Woody Harrelson doesn't remember what he had for breakfast let alone the long list of characters he has played. If this is a true statement, then his most recent character Jack Farro, and the film "The Grand" will be relegated to his short term memory and be quickly overwritten by episodes of Ren and Stimpy. The Grand is the new Mockumentary that takes place in the unique setting of a poker tournament. Harrelson's character is desperate to win a high profile poker tournament so he can bail out his family's casino with the $10 million dollar prize.

Casino vs Poker Bill Defeated

In the state of Massachusetts a controversial bill was up for a vote that would have banned online poker while at the same time supported three casinos. To the relief of poker fans in the state, and potentially poker players across the US, the bill was defeated by a House vote of 106-48. The bill, proposed by Governor Deval Patrick, had become the center of a maelstrom of debate around the topic of online poker in the state, mainly due to the incongruous support of the casinos, which would have sported poker rooms in addition to table games. New Zealand Says No to Online Poker

In the near future New Zealanders will be able to buy their lottery tickets online, which many poker players find ironic considering they are not legally allowed to play online poker. While Rick Barker, New Zealand's Internal Affairs Minister, has yet to make the changes in lotto needed to allow online purchases of tickets, Parliament has already decided that New Zealand Lotteries can sell online tickets, which makes it only a matter of time before the products are available. According to the Lotteries Commission, the Saturday Lotto, Big Wednesday and Daily Keno tickets will soon be available. WSOP Champ Continues Charity Work

He may not have been the poker representative people were expecting, but 2007 World Series of Poker World Champion Jerry Yang hasn't been idle. While most people expect the WSOP champ to appear in all the big events and talk about poker, Yang has instead been selectively choosing his appearances, and in some cases it is to coincide with a charitable event. The latest case is Yang teaming up with Feed the Children, an international hunger relief organization, to distribute food and other items...

Basics of Playing Heads Up in a Tournament

If you are lucky enough as a beginning poker player to find yourself in a heads up match after wiping out everyone else at a tournament, you'll need to understand how playing this match will differ from what you already know. You'll be up against one person and you need to prepare for that. If you make it to the heads up match - you instantly gave yourself a dramatically increased chance of winning - simply by being up against just one other person.

Prosecution Against Poker Stops in Sweden

Reports from the Gaming Intelligence Group have indicated that cases against media companies publishing online poker ads have come to a stop in Sweden. The Swedish Prosecution Authority sent out the order, which is counter to the actions from earlier in the year, when it appeared that the country was gearing up to take on these media outlets. The thinking is that Sweden is bowing to pressure from the European Commission, which has spoken against the practice, stating that it is against the free trade agreements of the EU. When Not to Bluff

There is truth in the statement that you can fool some of the people some of the time. Most major Democracies tend to base their election cycles around this platitude. There is a second part to that cliché that talks about the impossibility of fooling all of the people all of the time. This is probably where mid-term elections come into the mix. Fooling people is also a big part of the game of poker. Billions of words have been written about when to bluff, how to bluff, how to tell if someone else is bluffing, but not much is often said about when not to bluff.

Court Overturns Poker Decision

The question of poker machine installation in Victoria was a closed one until recently, when the Victorian Court of Appeal overturned a previous decision by the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT.) The Romsey Hotel had received permission from VCAT to install poker machines, but now the Court has stepped in, stating that VCAT did not consider community opposition evidence when making their decision. Some sources cite Macedon Ranges councilor John Connor as saying that Romsey has no machines, and the community wants that to remain the fact, and that the Court decision would benefit the entire state of Victoria. Drowning at the River with Kings

You have a pair of Kings before the flop and are thinking about how to get full value for your cards. Let's admit the obvious: these cards are what many players want to see in their hands when it comes to hole cards. The only thing that is better is a pair of Aces, and the chances that somebody is holding those are almost nil. Chances are before the flop you have the best hand at the table. The temptation here will be to slowplay and draw people into the hand so that these rare, premium cards get the payoff they deserve. A lot of players have found out just how big a mistake this is.

Sloshed

There are a lot of things that can either inhibit your play or raise your game. Many of these things have absolutely nothing to do with the cards themselves. For example, we all know that going tilt is possibly the worst condition to be playing under. That is why your opponents will even resort to kicking you under the table in order to get your temper to flare. It should be a no brainer that one should be sober at a poker table, but as many drinking and driving studies have proved, even one drink can impair one's judgment among a host of other effects on the body.

Pavlov and Poker. Part 2

Last time we spoke about how you should get your opponents to have Pavlovian responses to your actions. If you can get them to instinctually react to your moves but in wrong ways, you can easily set them up and lead them to make big mistakes. Doing this requires some work at the table, but it can pay off with easy victories. You too should develop a set of pavlovian responses, although not to make yourself more easily swayed and manipulated, but to improve your reaction time and allow yourself to act more instinctually at the table. If you can act at the table based on instincts instead of having to think about it, you can react more quickly and with greater surety.

The Toughest Lay Down

One of the benefits of playing online poker is that physical tells are no longer part of the mix. This means that when your hole cards consist of two aces you are free to do some sort of victory dance in your pajamas without your opponents picking up on your glee. These are widely regarded as the best two cards you can ever be dealt. The issue with how highly coveted these cards are, is that they are also the hardest ones to lay down when the time comes.

Don't Give Your Money Away

There are a ton of mediocre poker players who have trouble moving up the food chain because they can't get over one stupid, yet obvious mistake: they throw money away left and right. One would think that separating a poker player from their chips should be difficult, but still too many players happily give away their money like they are contributing to PBS or a Jerry Lewis telethon. The major problem with people is that we are emotional beings. Although this is wonderful in a variety of ways, it makes poker a much more difficult game to play.

Well, Annie Duke and Don Cheadle have put their heads together and decided to do what they can to help those affected by this conflict.

Learn to Let Go

Obi-Wan Kenobi said a lot of things to Luke Skywalker during the movie Star Wars: most of it was not particularly helpful. Sprinkled in with the bits of listening to his feelings and avoiding the unpleasant topic of who Luke's real father was, he did have one nugget of wisdom: "let go". Poker is a game of decisions, and very often we don't make the right ones. For example, during the 2007 World Series of Poker Chip Jett was playing against a player who could only be considered debris. The problem was that Jett was having the hardest time beating this guy because he couldn't put the player on a hand.

Pavlov and Poker. Part 1

Do you remember learning about Pavlov back in Science class? The guy who did the experiments with the bells and the dogs? If you do, you'll remember that Pavlov trained his dogs to know they were about to be fed when he rang a bell. He knew they knew by the fact that whenever he rang the bell, the dogs would start salivating, even if he didn't have food for them. In fact, eliciting a Pavlovian response to your actions from your opponents is one of the best things you can do in poker.

Watch for Other's Bad Draws

Draw poker is a difficult game, belied by its simplicity. One of the reasons why draw games are so difficult is the great lack of information about your opponents' hands as compared to Holdem or stud games. In those latter variants, you can accurately guess someone's hand from either the up cards or community cards, but in draw games, you can only see the cards you drew. One way you can glean information about the cards, however, lies in the draws. Watching your opponents' draws and their reactions to them, you will learn much about the relative strength or completion of your opponents' hands.

Payback?

Celebrity Poker Showdown was but a symptom of the epidemic of Hollywood celebrities infiltrating the sport of poker. In most cases, the goal was to use Texas Holdem as a defibrillator to help resurrect their sputtering careers. In general, this hasn't made their careers better, it has made poker worse. Wouldn't it be nice to get some payback? Well apparently Daniel Negreanu will be doing just that with an appearance in the highly anticipated film "X-Men Origins: Wolverine".

The Carrot and the Stick

What is the best way to defend your blinds? Well you could try administering a savage beating, but most civilized societies frown on unprovoked violence at a gaming table. So when beating your opponent silly with the bean dip is suddenly removed as an option, you are left with only a couple of options. You could either surrender and fold your cards or take a carrot/stick approach. The problem with being in the blinds is that for the most of the hand you are in the worst position at the table. This means that any aggression on your part will be out of position.

Save Animals by Playing Poker Online

She's done it before, and she will do it again, but this is the first time she will do it online. Pro poker player Jen Harman loves animals and loves to help them, and as such she makes the perfect host for an online charity poker event that will go to benefit the Nevada Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) no-kill animal shelter. The event, which will run on March 16th, will cost $5 plus $5 to play, and there will be plenty of celebrity Animal Lovers on board during the game. The Casino Made Me Do It

Arelia Margarita Taveras lost over a million dollars at a casino in Atlantic City. Of course in a world where the meaning of the word "is" depends heavily upon who is uttering it, personal responsibility is often an elusive thing. So in the grand tradition of a world run by trial attorneys, Ms. Taveras is suing the casino for not recognizing that she might have a problem. Jesus Wins!

It would seem that most people who call themselves Jesus would be asking for a sudden, violent lightning bolt to the brain stem. Somehow Chris "Jesus" Ferguson has managed to get by just fine while sporting a nickname that many would consider sacrilegious. Not only has he thrived, but he has also managed to pull off a few miracles in the past. Most recently he performed the feat of taking home the National Heads-Up Championship.

Game Film

Athletes don't only study film of their opponents, but they also watch film of themselves in action. We don't mean in the "Paris Hilton/night vision goggle" sense, but they watch themselves on the field to figure out the holes in their own game. They are smart enough to know that they can watch all the file footage in the world on their opponents, but if their own game isn't tight, all the watching in the world isn't going to help them. Most of the better online poker sites provide tools that will help players track their hand histories, seen flop percentages, as well as take notes.

Brain Fog and the Weary Player

There are some facts about the human body that we should all be aware of. First, over 70% of our body is made up of water. This means that though bourbon is good in a pinch, a couple of glasses of H2O per day probably won't kill you. Second, hair on your hands is probably due to some problem at the genetic level, regardless of what old wives tales have to say about that particular topic. Third, we need sleep. Anybody who tells you that they work best when they're tired probably also signed on to Amway after watching a Battlestar Galactica Marathon.

Native Canadians Fight Looming Online Poker Ban

In Canada, the government of Ottawa has been looking at legislation similar to the US' UIGEA in order to block financial transactions to online poker sites, but one group in particular thinks they should be exempt. According to the Mohawks of Kahnawake the Canadian law - and in fact all Canadian laws - do not apply to them because they are a sovereign nation. In addition a section of the Constitution that was created to protect native culture should apply; gaming as a form of settling disputes has been part of Mohawk culture for some time, according to them. When a Delaware country club high stakes poker game was held up by three armed men, the victims were forced to don red pillowcases on their heads. One of the players, a state trooper, left before police arrived, and when the police found surveillance tapes at a local Wal Mart where those pillowcases were sold, they found the trooper making the purchase. Trooper First Class Hyun Jin Kim, 27, has been arrested and charged with 11 counts of robbery as well as various other charges...

Doyle Brunson Makes Political Support Statement

The man known as the Godfather of Poker decided to share his endorsement for the US Presidential race, which is now in the primary stage, by siding with newcomer Barack Obama. While Doyle Brunson's endorsement was made known in a February 16th posting on his blog, other sources are picking it up and using it as a sign that poker players should endorse and support Obama over Clinton or McCain, the other serious contenders in the race. One major reason for the support is that Obama is a known poker player, and those who make their living on the game see him as their best case scenario. To Slowplay or Not to Slowplay

In the movie "Revenge of the Sith", Obi-Wan Kenobi makes the statement that only a Sith deals in absolutes. Apparently Mr. Kenobi missed the fact that his own statement is an absolute and qualifies him for a black robe and red light saber. This of course doesn't change the fact that absolutes really don't work when it comes to complex subjects such as poker. In more than one article and publication it has been noticed that the writer has used the word "never" when talking about slowplaying AA or KK hole cards before the flop.

Removing Outs in Draw Poker

Draw poker allows you to control when you get your outs and, to some extent, how your hand develops from that. You can choose what cards to drop from your hand and when. You can also choose how many new cards to get, either one or two. There's another side to this that can be a useful part of any poker player's strategy when playing draw poker. Every time you draw a new card, you remove a card from the deck. Generally, you are doing this to add that card to your hand, but there's another reason why you can do this.

Who's the Master?

Men "The Master" Nguyen doesn't often have to wonder who the boss is when he sits down at a poker table. Unless he is playing against Phil Hellmuth, Doyle Brunson, or Johnny Chan, there are not that many folks who can pull rank on Men. Until yesterday that would have been true within comfy confines of his home as well, but on March 5th Van Nguyen, Men's wife, became the first woman to win a major, televised World Poker Tour tournament. The staggering implications this has for exactly how even the playing field is in regards to gender equality in poker are dwarfed by implications this has regarding how now Van has a piece of hardware that her husband can't match.

Pro Poker Players Busted

Two men known as professional poker players have been caught with hundreds of thousands of pounds stolen from cash machines. The men, who are brothers, are Mohammed Imran and Mohammed Irfan, and they have had the funds since 2005, when they stole them from ATMs using a system loophole and an expired bank card. The Bank of Scotland and Halifax, upon their merger three years ago, updated their ATM system but left the loophole that was exploited by the two men, who reportedly stole the funds to bankroll a Las Vegas gambling trip...

Go Easy on Fancy Play

You know a thing or two about a thing or two, as the saying goes, and most of what you know is poker. You know how to raise from the button holding a monster because you know the experienced players in the blinds will assume you are making a standard button bluff. You know how to re-raise just enough on the turn to get your opponent pot committed so that they will pay you off on the river. But do you know enough to not do all of this in a single game?

Sidestepping a Snare

A lot of time and server space is consumed telling players how to get the chips of their opponents. Unfortunately, not nearly enough effort is spent informing players about the ways their own stacks will be attacked. Often the assumption is that if we know what to do, automatically we also know what not to do. Just watch any tournament where a seasoned pro will mutter under his breath, "I shouldn't do this" before calling a big bet, and then they find out too late that their instincts were right: they shouldn't have done it.

Tax Alert for Casino Poker Players

Between January 1st and April 15th the citizens of the United States get a collective enema called income tax. It is referred to in this manner because something fairly uncomfortable, in this case IRS paperwork goes in, and stuff comes out - in the case of income taxes this means cash. We won't even go into the details of the actual procedure. For years tournament casino poker players chuckled while filling out the forms, content that the winnings they stuffed under their mattresses were safe from the little men from the tax office. That is no longer the case.

Get the Spouse Into the Game

You love playing poker and you love playing poker online. Have you made your spouse or loved one a Poker Widow or Widower? Here is an idea tailor-made for you and your spouse: get him or her their very own poker account. First, they will get a chance to do what you love, gaining appreciation for why you spend so much time at the virtual tables. Second, if they fall in love with the game as well, you can both play without the other feeling left out.

The Math of Putting Someone on a Hand

Somebody once said for ever action there is an equal and opposite reaction. Chances are this statement was uttered by a guy who just got a wrought iron skillet slammed into his frontal lobe by an angry wife who just learned he spent $10,000 on a big screen television. In Texas Holdem there is generally a reaction when cards are shown on the board. A good flop can neuter some great starting hands. Conversely, an iffy drawing hand can become the nuts if the flop and turn go a player's way.

Sports Star Goes Far in Poker Competition

At the 2008 NBC National Heads Up Championship poker pros and celebrities butt heads to see who is the best in a head to head poker competition, and former NL Cy Young Award winner Orel Hershiser came close to proving that it was him. He knocked out eight poker players before being knocked out himself by Andy Bloch (who was in turn knocked out by Chris "Jesus" Ferguson.) Ted Forrest, Allen Cunningham and Freddy Deeb were among those eliminated by Hershiser. Ferguson, who had come in second place in two previous years' competitions, went on to win the event. Where to Play

Once you have figured out how to play, another really important question is where to play. Let's face it, once most of us figured out the wonders of solid food, it wasn't long before we learned that there was a huge difference between Ruth's Cris Steak House and a place where your yell your order into a clown's mouth. If Phil Hellmuth walked into a casino and sat down at a table with Daniel Negreanu, Doyle Brunson, and Phil Ivey, he would look a lot less dominant than if he was playing against Larry, Curly, Moe, and Shemp.

Typically held on weak business nights like mid- week, these poker games are free to play, offering points and prizes down the line.
