The Oldest Profession

Some people when asked what the world's oldest profession is will blush and get silly little grin on their face; others will think about it for a moment and then say that farming is the oldest human vocation. Those of you who are in that latter category probably need to get out more. It is a well traveled notion that prostitution is the planet's oldest service industry job. At many points in history women of negotiable affection have gone with the poker industry in the same complimentary fashion as a warm glass of milk and a bag of Oreos go together.

The Plague

The plague is what happens when the table goes dead. There's no action, the game is going slow, it's getting boring, and worst of all, you're not making any money. The plague infects many tables at many times. It can last for a great long time, killing the table, or it can be a short period of little action, setting the table up for a rebirth. The plague is like a force of nature. Seldom can you stop it or avoid it. Your only real recourse is to try and ride it out and be in a position to capitalize on its aftermath. This requires careful play on your behalf, however.

Trapping with a Raise and a Smooth Call

In poker, a smooth call is something you do when you are trying to trap your opponent and get them to feed the pot with their hard earned money. For example, in pre-flop betting if you are in the late position, but not the last to act, and you have a pair of aces, you may want to encourage action without tipping off how strong your position is. If you are at an aggressive and loose table, chances are pretty good that somebody will not only call the big blind, but raise. In the event that someone raises, you will re-raise them with your pair of Aces.

A final table that sported players like Phil Ivey, Michael Mizrachi and David Pham could be one of the toughest poker tournamets around, and that was just what Lee Markholt faced when he played in the World Poker Challenge, a World Poker Tour event. Poker and Golf Return Together

Last year the World Series of Poker influenced a number of big time poker pros to organize and play in their second favorite game - golf. The talk show host that made his presence known at the 2007 World Series of Poker main event will soon be playing poker in Wales. Montel Williams, who stood out at the 2007 WSOP for his flamboyant shirt as much as his celebrity, will play at the PartyPoker.com Poker Nations Cup in Cardiff, Wales this April.
